What is THC-P?

What is THC-P? What about THC-H, HHC-P, HHC-O, HHC, THC-B, or THC-JD? There are so many new forms of THC being converted from CBD oil, we thought we’d delve into them in this blog:

We were recently asked by CBD Oracle for our comments on THC-JD. If you’re wondering, “what the heck is THC-JD?” Don’t worry, you’re not alone.  Their request got us thinking about all of the new, synthetic forms of THC — Delta-8-THC, THC-P, HHC-P etc. — and how confusing this must be for consumers and stores. We’ll break down the differences below.

What is THC?

Before discussing what THC-P is, let’s first look at regular old THC. Until a few short years ago, whenever people talked about THC they were referring to Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the most-prevalent natural psychoactive cannabinoid in cannabis, which can also be found in hemp.  When the U.S. legalized industrial hemp, they allowed the sale of CBD and cannabinoid products that contain less than 0.3% Delta-9-THC.

Converted forms of THC, including THC-P

Manufacturers soon found that they could convert legal hemp CBD oil into other forms of THC and sell them at higher potencies than the legal limit of 0.3% Delta-9-THC. Some of the tetrahydrocannabinols made from CBD oil mimic natural cannabinoids, like Delta-8-THC and Delta-10-THC, while others, like Delta-8-THC-O a d Delta-9-THC-O, are completely new, man-made compounds. Either way, virtually all of the other variants of THC on the market today have been converted or synthesized from CBD oil.  This includes THC-P.

What is THC-P?

THC-P, or tetrahydrocannabiphorol, is a lesser-known cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant.

THC-P is structurally similar to THC but is believed to be more potent, potentially producing stronger psychoactive effects at lower doses with some claiming THC-P to be up to 33 times as strong as Delta-9-THC.

Although THC-P occurs naturally in cannabis and hemp, it is believed that virtually all of the products being marketed as THC-P are converted or synthesized from CBD oil. This includes products such as THC-P vape cartridges, disposables, tinctures and more.

What’s Really In THC-P And Other non Delta-9-THC Products?

When CBD Oracle asked us about THC-JD, they mentioned that they couldn’t find THC-JD listed on any of the lab reports for products claiming to contain it.

This problem also exists with THC-P, HHC-P and so many other forms of THC.

We have found many instances of companies showing lab reports for raw ingredients, not finished products, or for a completely different batch or product entirely. This means that consumers actually have no idea about the purity or potency of the product or what cannabinoid is in it – if any!

THC-P Health Risks & Delta-9-THC Death

The alleged high potency of THC-P could pose risks alone. After all, if someone is unaware that THC-P could be dozens of times as strong as Delta-9-THC, they may have a very bad experience with a THC-P vape or other product.

While the natural forms of cannabinoids such as THC-P and Delta-8-THC may offer potential wellness benefits, there are many reports of health risks associated with converted Delta-8-THC and all of these new forms of converted THC, including THC-P. For Delta-8-THC alone, national poison control centers received 2,362 cases of poisoning in the first year the Delta-8-THC product code was added to the data base – January 2021 to February 2022. Seventy percent required health care facility evaluation, 8% of which were admitted to a critical care unit, and one child died.

What’s Different About Our Delta-9-THC?

At Rare Cannabinoid Company we don’t use any form of THC that has been converted, synthesized, or isomerized from CBD oil. We don’t sell any products containing THC-P, Delta-8-THC, Delta-10-THC, HHC-P, HHC-O, HHC, THCH, THC-JD etc. Instead, we stick to all natural, hemp-derived full spectrum Delta-9-THC oil.

All of our THC Gummies contain natural hemp extracts. Coming from hemp and containing less than 0.3% THC, our Mood Gummies are federally legal and ship to all U.S. locations.

You can also see exactly what’s in them on our independent lab test reports page.

What About THCV and THCA?

THCV may sound like THC but it not a form of THC at all. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinols (THCs) (including natural Delta-9 as well as synthetic THC-P, HHC-P etc.), tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) has totally different potential wellness properties of uplifting and energizing while curbing the munchies.

Meanwhile, THCA is the acidic precursor of Delta-9-THC and turns into it when heated. Natural THCA products are available but lab tests should be carefully looked at and, like Delta-8-THC and other forms of THC, THCA is illegal in some states.

Summary Of What Is THC-P

THC-P is a naturally occurring form of THC found in cannabis and hemp that is believed to have much stronger psychoactive effects. Due to its intoxicating effects and ability to skirt around laws designed for Delta-9-THC, manufacturers are producing THC-P by converting it from CBD oil and selling it in the form of THC-P vapes, THC-P oils, and other THC-P products, which may carry health risks.
