Synthetic vs. Natural Hemp THC
DEA Rules Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC-O Illegal. Here’s The Legal, Safe Alternative:
There was a time when people only knew about marijuana. Then, we started referring to cannabis (plants high in psychoactive Delta-9-THC) vs. hemp (plants predominantly containing non-psychoactive CBD).
With the 2018 U.S. Farm Bill, CBD and cannabinoids could be sold outside of cannabis dispensaries as long they were made from hemp and contained less than 0.3% Delta-9-THC.
So, many companies started converting hemp-derived CBD into different forms of psychoactive THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). These products contain very high levels of other types of THC that get people high, but zero Delta-9-THC (to comply with the law).
Now, vape shops and gas stations are filled with synthetic Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC-O, HHC-P, THC-P, THC-B, Delta-8-THC, Delta-10-THC and many more.
Last week, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration decided that two of these compounds, Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC-O, are illegal because they are both highly intoxicating, but do not occur naturally in the hemp or cannabis plant.
What About Other Synthetic Cannabinoids?
What does this new ruling mean for all of the other synthetic, converted cannabinoids?
In this Forbes article, Shane Pennington, counsel at Vicente Sederberg LLP, who focuses on cannabis and hemp regulation, said that the DEA’s determination applies “not only to delta-8 and delta-9 THC-O products but also to other hemp-derived synthetic cannabinoids with intoxicating effects that have emerged in recent years, such as HHC.”
While HHC and other novel cannabinoids do occur naturally in hemp (and were not named in the latest ruling), the vast majority of products containing them have been converted from CBD, not naturally extracted.
Health Concerns
In addition to legal issues, THC-O and other synthetically-derived psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinols have never been tested for safety in human studies. This new study in the Journal of Medical Toxicology raises serious safety concerns abut the inhalation of THC-O. The FDA has also issued health warnings following hundreds of consumer complaints and poison cases involving Delta-8-THC products.
A Natural, Legal, Safe Alternative?
These various forms of THC have all been invented because customers want to purchase Delta-9-THC. In addition to potential recreational uses, Delta-9-THC offers myriad wellness benefits, including relief from temporary pain, inflammation, anxiety, and nausea. But, to receive these benefits, products must be lab-tested and not contain harmful toxins.
Instead of turning to man-made alternatives, there are a couple ways to buy Delta-9-THC that you can be sure are legal and safe.
If you live in a state with medical or recreational cannabis, you can buy all-natural cannabis-derived Delta-9-THC products from a dispensary. There are many regulations in place to assure that you’ll receive a safe product.
Or, you can buy full spectrum hemp-derived Delta-9-THC gummies and have them shipped to any of the 50 states. For your safety, all of our products are made in a cGMP-certified facility and show clear third-party lab test reports online.
How Are Hemp Delta-9-THC Gummies Legal?
THC gummies are allowed to be sold across the United States outside of dispensaries as long as they are:
- Naturally derived from hemp – this means that they contain a full spectrum oil with Delta-9-THC, CBD and other trace elements, and do not contain isomerized or converted cannabinoids.
- Contain less than 0.3% THC by dry weight.
- Are for adult use only.
Does Hemp-Derived THC Feel Different?
We’re often asked if hemp-derived Delta-9-THC feels different from Delta-9-THC from cannabis. It is the exact same cannabinoid and offers the same effects and benefits.
However, our THC Mood Gummies contain a full spectrum oil specially chosen for its high levels of CBC (cannabichromene), which is a mood enhancer, in addition to Delta-9-THC (5mg per gummy), CBD and trace amounts of other phytocannabinoids and terpenes.
Many people find that this combinations of cannabinoids offers a blissfully relaxing feel that is more well rounded and balanced than pure THC. By contrast, many cannabis-derived THC products contain a THC isolate or distillate that is nearly all THC. While this is ideal for some people, it can cause anxiety or paranoia for others.
Please note that our THC Mood Gummies do have a stronger hemp taste than our extra strength THCV, CBN, CBG, and CBD gummies. This is due to the rich, full spectrum oil. They are vegan and naturally flavored with fresh lime and mint.
Where Do THC Gummies Ship To?
We ship our THC Mood Gummies to all 50 states in the USA and offer free U.S. shipping on all orders over $50. They are also sold in many of the hundreds of stores that stock our products. Due to legal restrictions outside our control, we cannot ship THC Mood Gummies internationally. However, we do ship all of our other products worldwide, including THCV gummies and oils. (Although THCV sounds like THC, it is actually a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that suppresses appetite and increases energy).
We hope you can feel the benefits of natural Delta-9-THC either from a dispensary or from us:
